Understand how medical data is

• acquired (our task as medical engineers developing devices),
• evaluated (extracting relevant information),
• managed (storage, administration, compression, data security),
• presented (man-machine interface, visualization, data mining).

Course Requirements:
Basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics, IT, med. Imaging, hospital organization

Content:
1.Sources of medical data (technological fundamentals),
2.Electronic medical records (standards like DICOM, problems),
3.Modelling and simulation (kinetic compartment models, Monte-Carlo simulation)
4.Parameter estimation and quantification (from images to numbers)
5.Visualization and display (3D imaging, multi-modality, navigation)
6.Communication and infrastructure (E-Health, Home care, Telemedicine)
7.The filmless hospital: PACS
8.CAD and CDSS (computer aided diagnosis, clinical decision support systems)
9.Human-Computer interaction, multimodal approaches (speech, gestures, non-verbal I/O) in medicine
10.Hands-on demonstrations and exercises.
