Student dormitories
The "Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein" offers rooms in several dormitories. They are located on the campus as well as in the city centre. Prices per room and month vary between 230 and 300 €. You may apply for a room early, however, you will not be notified until the end of July or the beginning of August.
These student dormitories are the cheapest ones around and living there gives you the chance to easily meet colleagues and friends. You may find this very useful during the course of your academic program, as there are various group tasks to be performed.
Please refer to the Studentwerk. Here, you will find further information about the dorms and the application procedure. The more restrictions/personal wishes you have regarding the room, the lesser the chances are to get a room in the first semester. The official deadline for applications is July 15th, however, later applications are still welcome.
Please be aware of the critical room situation in Lübeck. You must expect to look for a private room. Private rooms are not located at the campus and might cost about 300-400 Euro/month.

International tutors in the dormitories
Our international tutors in the dormitories are international students who have already been living in Schleswig-Holstein for some time. They are contact persons for all international students who live in the dormitories.
If you have questions about life in the dormitories, about daily life in Germany, if you do not know where to go, if you have special questions, have difficult experiences or don’t feel comfortable in Germany and want to get in touch with others, the international tutors will gladly help you.

Payment
The room deposit of about 250 € has to be paid in advance. You will get the deposit back when you vacate your room in a clean and orederly state. Please see the details on your contract. You can transfer the money or pay cash, in person, to Ms. Peters in the Mensa Building from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 pm every day.
Signing the lease contract
You will receive the lease contract for your room from the Studentenwerk Kiel. There are two copies: One to be kept by the student for his/her reference and to show to the janitor and the other should be signed and sent back to the Studentenwerk Kiel.
Please transfer the money via bank to the bank account stated in your leasing contract. The monthly rent is drawn automatically from your bank account (SEPA).
Getting the keys
You must make an appointment with the janitor Mr. Bordt in advance. From him you will get the keys. His phone number is 0451 - 40032958 and his office hours are Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 15:00 p.m. and Fridays from 7:30 a.m until 13:30 p.m. His office (Hausmeisterbüro) is on the ground floor, on the left side of the dormitory building III (Anschützstr.11).
Before accepting the room, please check the condition of the furniture in your room. It is expected that you will return the room in the same condition as it was in upon your arrival. Sign the record for moving into the room.
Prolonging stay or moving out
The contract is always only valid for one semester and expires automatically. If you want to stay for another semester, you must inform the responsible person at the Studentenwerk.
